Lakeside
Only 8 miles away, Lakeside is at the foot of Lake Windermere. It is a start point for a sail up the Lake or a steam train to Haverthwaite or a visit to the award-winning Aquarium of the Lakes. Take a picnic or lakeside walk at the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park.
Bowness-on-Windermere
This lakeside town is a hub Lake launches, outdoor shops, gastro-pubs and other eating places. Visit the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and Blackwell, one of the leading Arts and Crafts houses in the country. Windermere town is a pleasant walk away with its own attractions.
Ambleside
At the head of the Lake, Ambleside offers easy access to a range of watersports and dramatic fell walks. It boasts 2 cinemas, Hayes Garden World and a host of design-led shops and places to eat.
Coniston
Walk up Coniston Old Man past fascinating remains of slate quarries and coppermines. Enjoy a sail on a Coniston launch or the steam yacht Gondola, visiting the Ruskin Museum to learn more of Donald Campbell and Ruskin's beautiful house at Brantwood.
South Lakes Towns
Kendal is home to mint cake, Abbot Hall Art Gallery, the Museum of Lakeland Life and the Quaker Tapestry. Swim at the Leisure Centre, climb one of the country’s highest walls or visit the Brewery Arts Centre and Cinema. Ulverston has a year-long festival programme, Thursday market, Coronation Hall theatre and Laurel and Hardy Museum celebrating Stan’s birthplace. Barrow-in-Furness is a Victorian townscape with strong seaward influence and boasts the Dock Museum, Furness Abbey and the nearby South Lakes Wild Animal Park.
