Allithwaite
The Hayloft's home village has a well-stocked shop, charity shop, park and 2 pubs; The Guide over Sands and The Pheasant Inn. The Cumbria Coastal Way leads to Humphrey Head, a Cumbria Wildlife Trust nature reserve and limestone cliff renowned for its flora and fauna, and Wraysholme Tower, a 15th century Pele tower; visible from the upstairs lounge too.
Cartmel
This picturesque village is within 2 miles and has a 12th Century Priory, steeplechase racecourse, Michelin-star restaurant, Howbarrow Organic Farm and a shop famous for sticky toffee pudding. Discover a network of paths from the door to experience breathtaking views across the Peninsula to the dramatic Lakeland fells and amazing light of Morecambe Bay.
Flookburgh & Holker
Go west to the ancient fishing village of Flookburgh and visit the Lakeland Miniature Village, a fascinating insight into more than 100 regional buildings, and Ducky’s Park Farm, great for kids whatever the weather. Holker Hall is the Victorian home of Lord and Lady Cavendish, with magnificent gardens, parkland, Food Hall, Café, Gift Shop and events.
Grange-over-Sands
Walk or drive over the hill to the former Victorian and Edwardian seaside resort of Grange-over-Sands, a haven for birdwatchers, artists and photographers. Enjoy the mile-long promenade, ornamental gardens and 2 individual golf courses or traditional tea-rooms, gift shops including Art Crystal and food shops like Higginsons, regionally renowned for pies.
